Hannis Brown is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of music, both in the concert

hall and as accompaniment to film in order to achieve maximum psychological and narrative

impact.


Brown’s film scores have premiered at such festivals and

venues as Slamdance, Newport Beach Film Festival, Fantasia

Film Festival, LA’s Dances With Films Festival, the Los

Angeles International Christian Film Festival, Hawaii’s

Ojai Film Festival, Ashville Film Festival, and the Los

Angeles Pacific Design Center. As a jazz guitarist, he has

performed under the direction of former Tonight Show

bassist Joel DiBartolo, Maria Schneider, John Abercrombie,

Bobby Shew, Ed Neumeister, and with poet Quincy Troupe.

In Los Angles Brown assisted noted film composer John

Frizzell on ABC’s “Moonlight” (2007) and on the film

FROM MEXICO WITH LOVE. He holds his B.A. in Music from

Northern Arizona University and his M.A. in Scoring for

Film and Multimedia from New York University.


Hannis Brown is currently working with a number of directors in New York and Los Angeles where he is becoming known for his unique and versatile compositional voice which pulls from such disparate influences as concert composers Bela Bartok and Penderecki, jazz great Charles Mingus, electronic musicians Aphex Twin and DJ Shadow and film composers Bernard Herrman and Elliot Goldenthal. He performs regularly with his own experimental rock and jazz groups.
